Wisconsin Recruiting Roundup

Badger Nation looks at the news and notes involving Wisconsin recruits from Wednesday, May 22.

UW targets Shine in Virginia

At the Blue Chip Challenge in Virginia Beach, Fox Sports' Michael Clark put four-star receiver Jamil Kamara and defensive end Tyler Powell.

Kamara - the 6-foot-2, 205-pound four-star Virginia Beach (VA) Bishop Sullivan Catholic wide receiver - continued his strong spring with a dominant performance on Sunday. Kamara overpowered several defensive backs and ran good routes. His combination of tremendous body control and soft hands allowed him to make several tough catches throughout the day.

The 6-4, 252-pound Powell from Midlothian (VA) defensive lineman is extremely quick and powerful. He really comes off the ball hard and has good leg drive. Although Powell is still a little raw, it is easy to see why he is approaching 20 scholarship offers. Powell says West Virginia, Wisconsin and Old Dominion are recruiting him the hardest.

Paleleli Hoping to see Wisconsin

Picking up an offer from Georgia Tech Wednesday, Gonzales (LA) East Ascension running back Sione Palelei is hoping to visit Madison on June 22, but says the visit is 100 percent certain yet. Paleleli has not been offered by Wisconsin yet, but says the Badgers have been recruiting him hard as of late with defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a being the point man.

Accounting for 1,114 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior, Palelei says Arkansas is his leader.

Florida Updates

* Saying he's open to every school on his list at this point, Fort Lauderdale (FL.) Cardinal Gibbons junior wide receiver Trevon Lee says Vanderbilt, Duke, Stanford, California and Nebraska are recruiting him the hardest. He didn't mention UW as a school he was planning on visiting. Wisconsin and wide receivers coach Chris Beatty offered in mid March.

* Hallandale safety John Battle also says he is open, which includes Wisconsin, as he tries to build relationships with the coaching staffs. He says he is talking the most with coaches at Louisville, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and South Florida.

"I know they produce a lot of DBs and running backs and o-linemen," Battle told Amy Campbell previously about Wisconsin. "I follow the program, they've been a powerhouse in the Big 10. I know a little bit about them."

He made no mention of visiting Wisconsin and wants to decide before the season.

* Fort Lauderdale University School linebacker Richard Yeargin III was offered by Wisconsin's old staff and was reached out to by the new staff. His recent interviews suggest, however, that he is not seriously considering Wisconsin at this point. He still plans on deciding after the bowl season or as late as national signing day.

Wisconsin targets getting offers

- Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro junior Christian Kirk was offered by Ohio State, his 18th offer overall.

- Phoenix Mountain Pointe's Jalen Brown was offered by Florida State, his 32nd offer overall.

- Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain Kyle Allen was offered by Tennessee, his 20th offer overall.

In-state update

Offers are beginning to come in for Grafton junior Beau Benzschawel. A tight end and defensive end for his school, his 6-6, 250-pound frame and the blocking ability he shows on film have many schools thinking he could be one of the next converts to succeed. Iowa State, Central Michigan, Wyoming and Bowling Green are among the schools he has offers from and Wisconsin has shown early interest.

New Offers

Miami (FL) Coral Reef quarterback Nicodem Pierre

Cleveland Glenville offensive guard Marcelys Jones

Lakeland (FL) Lake Gibbons Senior athlete Kendall Gant

Extra Points: Three-star Thomasville (GA) RB Adam Choice committed to Clemson … Los Angeles Salesian High linebacker Jamadre Cobb has not heard much from Wisconsin since being offered in March … Three-star Hampton (VA) Bethel High defensive tackle Ricky Walker says he continues to hear from Wisconsin and will come out with a top five at some point this summer.
