The Morning Buzz

Badger Nation looks at the news and notes involving Wisconsin recruits from Friday, May 24.

Edwards Narrows List

Cincinnati Winton Woods safety Mike Edwards is still projected to be a Kentucky lean with Louisville coming on strong. However, the 5-11, 182-pound safety added four other schools to his top six on Friday night: Nebraska, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Edwards has told us before that he feels he could fit in well with Wisconsin's new defensive scheme and is building a relationship with secondary coach Bill Busch. He is hoping to decide by June, so UW has time to get him on campus.

Daniel Impresses in Oakland

One of the many 2015 players Wisconsin has targeted early on the West Coast, Fresno (CA) Clovis North defensive tackle Jacob Daniel impressed the Fox Sports' scouts at the NFTC Oakland Combine. Daniel is a massive defensive tackle who powered his way through the competition. Just a sophomore with some extra weight, it's conceivable that he'll grow into an offensive lineman, but it's also conceivable that he trims up as he matures and becomes an All-Everything defensive tackle.

Daniel was offered by Colorado and Oklahoma on Friday.

In-state update

Having picked up offers from Army, Central Michigan, Columbia, Harvard, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Wyoming and Yale, Rice Lake (WI) linebacker Austin Roberts has started to generate BCS interest.

Roberts has reported interest from Cincinnati, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Wisconsin, which came by his school Friday morning.

"Coach Strickland and I talked a lot about possible positions for me, graduating early and summer plans," said Roberts. "It was a great visit and a very good talk. He did bring up the possibility of an offer, but it would most likely come at camp. I am definitely going this June.

"I'm just really glad that Wisconsin stopped by. It means a lot to me that Coach Strickland came all the way to see me. Definitely a positive for the Badgers."

Busy Day for Phillips

Omaha (NE) Millard West defensive lineman Harrison Phillips was visited by Nebraska and UCLA on Friday and the 6-4, 250-pound lineman also said Stanford has started to increase its recruitment in him.

Phillips attended Wisconsin's spring game and said he plans to camp with the Badgers, Cornhuskers and a host of other schools.

"I am just ready to go out there and show what I can do. My camp schedule is going to be busy, but it's a great opportunity for me to impress some more schools."
