Indispensable Badger #44

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.44.

Rob Wheelwright

Position: Wide Receiver

Experience: Freshman

2012 Stats: Recorded 48 receptions for 903 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior … finished career with 26 touchdown receptions

Strengths: Wheelwright does a great job in the open field and has great hand and ball skills.

Weaknesses: Main weaknesses include: lack of strength and explosiveness.

Overall: For a transitioning offense needing to open up the passing game, Wheelwright could be a quick fix if he can get his 6-1 frame adjusted to the speed of the college game and in sync with the Badgers offense. Head coach Gary Andersen said during spring that Wheelwright would get an opportunity to compete for playing time, and the Columbus, Ohio, native will gain valuable experience behind top receiver Jared Abbrederis.

With his depth chart status unknown, look for Wheelwright to possibly step in for a few reps at a time. Wheelwright is also a solid return man which could help the Badgers out in the future. Wheelwright has the ability to be a solid receiver in the future for the Badgers.

Up Next: Another true freshman, this player at No.44 provides needed depth at one of Wisconsin's thinnest positions.
