Indispensable Badger #40

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.40.

Bart Houston

Position: Quarterback

Experience: Redshirt Freshman

2012 Stats: Redshirted to fully recover from shoulder surgery … Holds school records for career passing yards and completions, surpassing Matt Gutierrez who played three seasons in the NFL ... invited to ESPN Elite 11 QB camp and played in Semper-Fidelis All-American Bowl ... holds career numbers of 272-of-437 passing (62.2 percent) for 5,178 yards and 46 touchdowns.

Strengths: Houston has all the intangibles and has the pocket poise and leadership as well as mental toughness.

Weaknesses: Although Houston has a rifle of an arm, he tends to have problems with his release which can be a problem with precision.

Overall: Rated a four-star prospect and ranked the number seven quarterback in the country by Scout.com, Houston is as good as they come. Surprisingly low on this list due to low depth chart status, Houston is quite possibly the future of the Wisconsin program. Houston has that "it-factor" that college coaches want in their quarterback, and will hope to show that this fall to challenge for the starting job.

Houston is a highly-touted recruit that wants to make an impact quickly. Unfortunately with a deep quarterback core, Houston will most likely have to wait awhile in order to make an immediate impact. Once Houston starts for the Badgers, he will be the major contributor to their success.
