The first offer turned out to be the best offer for Somerset (WI) tight end Gaelin Elmore.

Originally planning to name a leader prior to the season and then go on his official visits, Elmore decided to end the recruiting process Sunday by committing to head coach Jerry Kill and Minnesota.

"It's close to home," Elmore told Fox Sports' Allen Treiu. "It allows my family to go through this with me and enjoy my future with me."

The fourth commit of the Golden Gophers 2014 class, Elmore committed to Minnesota over offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin. He also was receiving interest from Ohio State, who he camped with over the weekend.

Elmore stepped on the recruiting radar last year. Although he finished with an approximate 210 receiving yards, his blocking on Somerset's run-heavy offense helped his high school win the WIAA Division 4 state championship.

"I know my role isn't to catch passes as much as it is to block and open running lanes," Elmore told us previously. "I am fine with it. I enjoy it. I did my job well enough for us to be a good team."

One of the much publicized ‘Super Six,' Elmore called Wisconsin his leader in early May, but the Badgers fell out of favor as Elmore went on more visits, including trips to Iowa State, Minnesota and Nebraska, and the UW staff didn't recruit him as hard as other school.

"They've told me that I am there number one, but I've seen things on the Internet and seen what people say," Elmore said last month. "One of the biggest things I'd say is that I was kind of a fall-back option for them. I am an in-state kid and a tight end, which apparently everyone thinks I am suppose to go to Wisconsin."
