Indispensable Badger #22

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.22.

Kyle French

Position: Kicker

Experience: Redshirt Junior

2012 Stats: Playing in 13 games … Converted 10 of 16 field goal attempts (62.5 percent) … Converted a career-long 46-yard field goal against Illinois … Converted 38 of 40 extra points (95 percent).

Strengths: French has a strong leg which he needs to use to his advantage this season. French also has great height on each and every one of his attempts, making him a weapon on kickoffs.

Weaknesses:French has not been consistent on his distance or hi accuracy. He missed his final three kicks last season, all of which were 40 yards or longer. French needs to work on his distance in order to be clutch for the Badgers this season.

Overall: French will be relied as the main guy for field goals, extra points and kickoffs; a role he appears to have earned after a strong spring camp in which he distanced himself from sophomore kicker Jack Russell. With 20 games under his belt, he should use that experience to be confident in his kicks this season.

Look for French to take all kicks this season as it will be critical for him to be accurate all season, especially in late game situations where he faltered last season.

Up Next: One of the team's individual bright spots last season, our No.21 player filled big shoes as a redshirt freshman, locking down the starting spot for years to come.
