Mixon A Package Deal?

The number one prospect for Wisconsin in 2014, Oakley (CA) Freedom running back Joe Mixon, despite multiple attempts, has yet visit Madison to see the program, but the five-star athlete is still determined to see first hand what the Badgers and the UW camps can offer him.

Oakley (CA) Freedom running back Joe Mixon has received attention from schools all over the country, not surprising considering he is a five-star recruit and No.4 running back in the country by Fox Sports Next.

Wisconsin is one of the 42 scholarship offers trying to win over the recruit. But if they want to convince the 6-2, 210-pound running back to come to Madison, they may need to convince offensive lineman Damien Mama to do the same.

"Damien Mama is like a couple hours away from me, but we knew each other before the recruiting process," Mixon told Badger Nation. "If I end up going to visit Madison then Damien's going to come with me."

Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama is rated as a five-star recruit and the nation's No. 1 ranked offensive guard in the country by Fox Sports Next, and both Mixon and Mama are anxiously looking for an opportunity to make a trip to Madison together.

"Damien Mama and I were thinking about making the trip out to Madison together but with the flights being messed up, we're not sure right now," said Mixon. "Wisconsin is a running back and linemen school, and Damien wants to block for me in college."

Mixon and Mama planned on visiting Wisconsin the week after The Opening, but their flight was cancelled due to the Asiana Airliner crash. The two have yet to lock down another date on when they will try to visit next, but are still talking to each other to make it work.

While Mixon tries to find another time to come to Madison, the coaches and one recruit are trying there hardest to convince the top prospect to play for the Badgers.

"The running backs coach Hammock and the other coaches still say I'm their number one guy," said Mixon. "The quarterback commit, D.J. Gillins, has also been trying to recruit me over Twitter. He told me he wants to play with me at Wisconsin and he wants to hand the ball off to me."

Hammock and Gillins will have some convincing to do with 41 other scholarship offers on the table and not to mention maybe two more on the way.

"The only two offers I would take is Alabama and LSU, and that's it," said Mixon. "Both schools have reached out to me a lot. They just want to see me in person. I'm not sure if I'll go to either one, but they're going to come and see me play. I'm not sure when that will be though."

Mixon has already picked three of his official visits for the fall, which includes Texas A&M (Sept. 14), Oklahoma (Oct. 4) and Georgia. The last two have yet to be decided, but he's considering Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
