Indispensable Badger #16

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.16.

Ethan Hemer

Position: Defensive Line

Experience: Redshirt Senior

2012 Stats: Played and started all 14 games … Finished with 24 tackles (14 solo) … Had 2.5 tackles for loss … Had a career-high three passes defended.

Strengths: Powerful and quick defensive lineman that can disrupt any offensive scheme thrown at him.

Weaknesses: Hemer needs to work on getting to the quarterback more. He needs to break through the line quicker and improve his footwork.

Overall: Hemer has a big frame at 6-6, 300 pounds, which allows for his potential to be infinite as an outside linebacker/defensive end in Wisconsin's 3-4 defense. He is quicker than most, which works to his advantage most of the time. Hemer needs to work on getting to the quarterback quicker in order to force sacks and to create disruptions.

Hemer is a consistent presence in the defense, but needs to step it up this season if he wants to have a higher sack total and make up for the loss of David Gilbert. He is a powerful and quick lineman that will make his presence known early on this season.

Up Next: Healthy throughout the 2012 season, our No.15 player is one of the veterans of Wisconsin's defense who has a knack for making plays
