Indispensable Badger #14

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.14.

Derek Watt

Position: Fullback

Experience: Redshirt Sophomore

2012 Stats: Played in 14 games (five starts) on offense and 14 games on special teams … Recorded 12 catches for 150 yards, including a long of 33 … Totaled 13 tackles (10 solo).

Strengths: Quick and powerful fullback that is versatile in his ability to catch and block whenever he is called upon.

Weaknesses: Needs to still polish some of his fundamentals and techniques because of his one year of experience as a fullback.

Overall: Switching Watt to fullback was perhaps one of the best things that could've happened to Wisconsin last season. His consistency and strength is unique at the fullback position. His ability to catch and block is overwhelming to opposing defenses which makes him so dangerous. It was amazing how quickly he picked up the position after being moved from linebacker one week into fall camp.

Look for Watt to be the starting fullback the next three years. His one year of experience at the college level will pay off even more this season as he will be a giant contributor in opening up holes for the run game and becoming a pass-catching threat out of the backfield.

Up Next: Our No.13 player returns for another senior season, as his expertise and knowledge will help him find an opportunity to contribute in some facet this season
