Indispensable Badger #13

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.13.

Curt Phillips

Position: Quarterback

Experience: Sixth-Year Senior

2012 Stats: Playing in seven games with five starts … Completed 56.8 percent of his passes (46 for 81) for 540 yards … Threw five touchdowns and two interceptions … Rushed for 99 yards on 27 attempts … Threw for 83 yards on 10 of 16 passes, with one touchdown and one interception, and ran for 64 more yards against Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

Strengths: Phillips is an athletic quarterback with above average consistency and accuracy. He has solid mobility even after his multiple ACL surgeries.

Weaknesses: Phillips needs to work on his pocket awareness and his arm strength. Although he has a solid arm, he didn't get called upon to throw the ball downfield much last season.

Overall: With five years under his belt and multiple ACL surgeries in his past, Phillips has had his fair share of ups and downs. This season, he will be competing against Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy for the starting quarterback job. With his consistency, Phillips will be a threat against the duo.

Phillips will also be relied upon to run the ball a few times out of the quarterback position. Phillips will use his experience to his advantage when he is looked upon to be a major leader for the Badgers this season.

Up Next: After the players in front of him left the program, our No.12 player needs to be a big player for Wisconsin in 2013
