Weber Likes Badgers' Smash-Mouth Style

Having already been targeted by multiple Big Ten schools, Detroit Cass Tech junior running back Mike Weber added another to his list on Monday when Wisconsin extended a scholarship.

With the calendar flipping to September and college coaches able to start contacting high school juniors, Wisconsin wasted no time in offering one of the top Midwest backs Monday night in Detroit Cass Tech junior running back Mike Weber.

"I found out about the Wisconsin offer by I talked to Coach Genyk and he told me that they were going to offer me," Weber told BadgerNation. "I was really excited because they are a big school and I'm looking forward to learning more about them. He was basically saying he loves the way that I play and I would fit good at Wisconsin."

An early four-star recruit and ranked the No.36 tailback in the 2015 class by Fox Sports Next, the 5-10, 190-pound Weber already holds offers from Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Syracuse and Tennessee.

Weber notes that he doesn't have a top list yet, would like to learn more about Wisconsin and wants to take a visit out there this fall.

"I know they're a smash mouth team and they win," said Weber. "I do think that I'm a good fit at Wisconsin with that physical style of football. I like the organization and the chemistry of the team. I will be there and go to one of their home games no doubt. I don't know which one yet, though."

Weber has only played one game so far, but had 140 rushing yards on only eight carries with two touchdowns. Last season in the Technicians repeat as state champions, Weber rushed for 1,825 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also recorded his fastest 40-yard dash time of 4.45 at the Sound Mind Sound Body Maximum Exposure Adidas Showcase last November in Detroit.
