Late Offer Earns An Official Visit

Desperate to add cornerbacks to its recruiting class after seeing the position suffer down the stretch in the 2013 season, the Wisconsin coaching staff has made a late offer to Memphis (TN) Melrose cornerback Cornelius Sturghill, who will take a visit before signing day.

Wisconsin is need for help in the back end of their defense and it showed when South Carolina torched the Badgers' secondary in the Capital One Bowl. The latest offer to be extended from Wisconsin goes out to a rising athlete in Memphis (TN) Melrose senior Cornelius Sturghill.

"I was very overwhelmed when I found out that I had gotten an offer from Wisconsin," Sturghill told BadgerNation. "My high school earlier in the week was telling me that Wisconsin was really interested in me. I talked to Coach Chad (Kauha'aha'a) today over the phone and he told me that he really liked me for a defensive back. He told me that they are looking for corners, so that is what they are recruiting me as."

The 5-11, 170-pound versatile Sturghill holds nine offers, including Purdue, UCLA and Vanderbilt. With an official visit to Madison booked for January 31, Sturghill is hoping for a quick final decision following his visit.

"I am very excited for my official visit to Wisconsin," said Sturghill. "I know that Wisconsin is in the Big Ten and they had a good season this year. I have been keeping up with them, but I just didn't know they were going to offer me. I haven't decided where else I will visit and I don't have a top school at the moment.

"I will either commit at the end of the month after I take my Wisconsin official visit or on signing day. There is a chance that I could just commit on the visit if I like it enough at Wisconsin."
