Badgers Target Another Plant Sleeper

One recruiting cycle after the Badgers found a sleeper defensive back in Austin Hudson, Wisconsin is back at Tampa (FL) Plant high school after another defensive back, offering cornerback Derrick Baity

Tampa (FL) Plant junior cornerback Derrick Baity oozes potential with his long length at 6-3 and his athleticism. Wisconsin was able to snag a sleeper prospect in its last class from Plant in safety Austin Hudson and now look to add Baity to the fold after offering him last week.

"Wisconsin offered my teammate Austin Hudson and he was telling me the coaches were asking who I was and what year am I, some information on me," Baity told BadgerNation. "I saw them at one of our games and I thought they were coming on an off day, but Austin told me that they were actually there for me. At (that) game, I had an interception for a touchdown, so that impressed them. I got to school on Monday and I was told that I got an offer from Wisconsin, so it was a big, big, big offer to me.

Once the Badger offer came in, Baity went to do some research on Wisconsin and found out how important football is in Madison.

"I found out that especially where it is that they are very big on football," said Baity. "It is a big football community and the stadium holds like 90,000 fans, so that is pretty cool. I want to go to a place that is big on football and where everyone there is for you. I want to get to the next level after college, so I have to adjust to any weather. Wisconsin wouldn't bother me at all."

Last summer the Badgers stumbled upon Hudson at one of their high school summer camps, quickly extending Hudson an offer and seeing him end his recruiting process. Seeing how beneficial the Wisconsin camp process is, Baity is considering camping with the Badgers this summer and staying for a campus visit.

"I talk with Austin and we were really close last season, especially with him being our safety and me being the corner," Baity said. "He was a big asset to our team. When he got the offer from Wisconsin, he told me all about them and how they want me and interested in me. I didn't think nothing of it, but he was really serious."

With the 2014 class all wrapped up, most 2015 recruits are seeing their recruitment pick up some steam, including Baity. In addition to Wisconsin, Baity holds offers from Central Florida and South Florida, as well as getting interest from Indiana and North Carolina State.

"I figure in my game that I want to play big or go home," Baity said. "With me standing at 6-3 now as a corner, that is an eye grabber right there. I have to play to my size and I bring a lot of energy to my game. I bring high energy in a big player that fills up space, so I am your guy."
