"My coach pulled me out of class and told me Wisconsin was on the phone and were going to offer me," Smith told BadgerNation. "It was very humbling and it made me just want to work even harder. I talked to Coach Beatty and he just told me that Wisconsin would love to have me as a Badger and said I'd definitely contribute early. He also said that they are building a championship team and this is the place to be both on and off the field. He would like to stay in touch too."
The 6-3, 202-pound physical hard-hitting linebacker is a fan of the hard-nosed style the Badgers bring to the game and looks ahead to the possibility of visiting Wisconsin sometime in the future.
"I know that they are constantly ranked in the top 25 and have been known as a tough rugged physical team and that they produce NFL players," said Smith. "All that is stuff I like about them. Wisconsin is a great school and has a tremendous football program. Wisconsin is definitely a place I could possibly see myself at.
"I don't know if I will be able to make it to Wisconsin since it would be a big trip, but I may take an official there. Who knows at this point? It is pretty early to decide where I'll take my officials, but won't count out any schools that have offered and have grabbed my attention."
Smith sits as a three-star recruit and is seeing his recruitment start to pick up.
"My recruitment is going pretty good," said Smith. "I hold offers from Old Dominion, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, Toledo, UNC-Charlotte, Illinois, Clemson, Maryland and now Wisconsin. I am also hearing from Ohio State, North Carolina, Missouri, Michigan State, Penn State and Alabama. I don't know yet where I might be visiting upcoming here."
