Badgers Target Touted Freshman

After targeting plenty of 2015 and 2016 prospects, wide receivers coach Chris Beatty made a big move on Tuesday, offering talented Miami Gulliver Prep freshman running back Robert Burns a scholarship.

The world of recruiting is evolving each and every day with schools targeting kids younger and younger. The Badgers are no exception since they offered one of the Sunshine State's finest 2017 recruits in Miami Gulliver Prep freshman running back Robert Burns.

"Oh man, I was told about the offer through my coach and I spoke to (Wide Receiver) Coach Beatty, whom confirmed it on the phone," Burns told BadgerNation. "I was just excited that they would have interest in me and I told one of my relatives who live in Wisconsin. They live in the Midwest, like in the Green Bay area."

"To be considered amongst a class of great backs like Montee Ball and James White is an awesome feeling. I love the identity of the offense and think I will contribute awesomely. That it would be an honor to play behind legacies of James White and Monte Ball and share my talents with the city. I'm excited to see how the recruiting process goes from here with Wisconsin."

The 5-11, 205-pound powerful tailback already holds early offers from Cincinnati, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, South Florida, West Virginia and now Wisconsin. He is also hearing from numerous other schools like Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Louisville, LSU, Miami and USC, amongst many others.

"My recruitment is very interesting so far with having a lot of interest from schools abroad," said Burns. "This summer I will be visiting South Carolina, Clemson, Ohio State, Ole Miss and another one of heavy interest is Georgia along with Georgia Tech, Tennessee and so many more. It is definitely one of my goals for summer to visit Wisconsin and hopefully we can. Overall, it will be a 30 plus schools I visit."
