Badgers Jump in the Mix for Tolbert

Since de-committing from Houston, Missouri City (TX.) Ridge Point junior cornerback Jordan Tolbert has seen multiple scholarship opportunities come his way, including one from the University of Wisconsin.

In the world of recruiting, gaining a commitment is all about past relationships and developed connections. Wisconsin used to have both of those ties in the state of Texas, having successfully recruited five defensive backs over a two year span.

But since Kerry Combs went to Notre Dame, Wisconsin has rarely ventured in the state of Texas over the last five recruiting cycles, a plan of attack that continues to change under a Wisconsin coaching staff willing to go into any part of the country to recruit players who fit their system.

Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point junior cornerback Jordan Tolbert qualifies as one of those players, as wide receiver coach Chris Beatty was in the Houston area and extended an offer out to the physical corner.

"Coach Beatty stop by and told me they are giving me an offer," Tolbert told BadgerNation. "I was just proud of myself that they think I would be a good fit for their team. I didn't see this offer coming and this was my first time talking with Coach Beatty and this was my first time ever hearing from Wisconsin."

Tolbert sits as the No. 69 corner in the nation and a three-star recruit by Scout. He was committed to Houston, but announced earlier in the week that he will be back on the market and checking out his other options.

The 5-11, 165-pound defender has offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Houston, Texas and Wisconsin. He notes that he currently doesn't have a top list nor does he have any upcoming visits planned.

"I really don't know that much about them (Wisconsin)," Tolbert said. "I would like to visit Wisconsin and 1-10, I'll say I am a seven in how interested I am in them."
