Wisconsin has been busy in the Lone Star State the past couple of weeks and extended an offer out to a sleeper prospect in Dallas South Oak Cliff junior athlete Willie Smith, which happens to be his first offer.
"My head coach Emmett Jones had called me and my mom and told me the good news," Smith told BadgerNation. "I was so excited; never thought I would get an offer from Wisconsin. It is a blessing. I researched Wisconsin's traditions and things about the school. I like it. I'm very excited. I'm the guy Wisconsin is looking for."
"This is my first offer and it means a lot because no other college offered me and they took a chance to offer me it is an honor," Smith added. "I like where the program is heading and the college itself. The atmosphere is great. I love the Big Ten and I do plan on visiting Wisconsin, but I don't know when. They are definitely at the top of my list and I think they are recruiting me for defensive back."
The 6-0, 171-pound defender is hearing from several other schools because of his abilities to make things happen on the field.
"My recruitment is going good," said Smith. "I've been hearing from schools like SMU, Fresno State, Illinois State, Maryland, Texas Tech, TCU and California. I'm an athlete; just put me around the ball and I'll make something happen. I'm teachable, I learn fast and love the game of football."
