2015 Focus: Running Backs

BadgerNation breaks down which running backs Wisconsin is looking at in the 2015 class, and where the Badgers stand with them.

With a lot of Wisconsin offers out for the 2015 class, we examine which positions the Badgers need to concentrate on in the next recruiting cycle.

We start with the tailback question. Barring attrition and transfers in the next year this is what the class would look like when the 2015 class would come in.

Seniors: Melvin Gordon (if he doesn't declare)

Juniors: Corey Clement

Sophomores: Taiwan Deal, Caleb Kinlaw

Freshman: Unknown

The Badgers could redshirt either Deal or Kinlaw this season after moving Vonte Jackson to safety, but UW could also lose Gordon after this season. Guaranteed to take one tailback, UW might end up taking two. So who is still out there for the Badgers in 2015?

Top Targets

Offers: Florida Atlantic soft verbal. Other offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, South Carolina, others.

UW's Chances: Wisconsin will get Scarlett on campus this fall, as he plans to take an official to Madison along with trips to Ohio State and South Carolina. He calls his decision to Florida Atlantic "very solid," but sees himself as a good fit for the Badgers' downhill running game.

Offers: Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin are the five current favorites.

UW's Chances: Already having visited each of his top five schools, Weber (pictured above) plans to take officials to each of the schools before making his decision following his senior season. Weber also could be in Madison in June with some of his teammates.

Offers: Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Virginia, among others.

UW's Chances: Turner said in early May that the offers from Clemson and Ohio State were standing out to him, but that he was really "pumped" about the offer from Wisconsin, which caught him off guard. Turner will come out with a list and make his visits from there; a list UW has a chance to be on.

Offers: Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Michigan, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Syracuse, among others.

UW's Chances: Lands-Davis hasn't visited many schools this early in the process, but knows a lot about Wisconsin because of running back coach Thomas Brown, who recruited Lands-Davis at Marshall. The three-star prospect calls UW one of his top offers.

  • Three-Star Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep Institute Nas Bonner
Offers: Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, Rutgers, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

UW's Chances:Offered by Wisconsin in December, Bonner has been visited by Thomas Brown and the two seemingly hit it off. The Badgers are the strong favorite to land him if they accept his commitment.

Offers: Boise State, Boston College, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami, Minnesota, Mississippi State, among others.

UW's Chances: Seeing his recruitment take off in May, Ozigbo says he hasn't started trimming his list of planning visits.

Long Shots

Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, among others.

UW's Chances: Harris' mom said recently that the family would like to visit Wisconsin before her son makes his decision on signing day, but it appears Michigan and Ohio State are the two front runners at the moment.

Offers: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, among others.

UW's Chances: His recruitment has exploded over the last few months, but it appears that Florida State and Georgia are leading currently. Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee could also play a factor in his recruitment.

Offers: Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Wisconsin are the five current favorites.

UW's Chances: Williams wants to make his decision before his senior season. We don't believe he has visited the Badgers yet, making UW unlikely to land him. South Carolina looks like the pick, but Georgia could sneak into the picture as well.

Offers: Alabama, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and others.

UW's Chances: Planning on visiting South Carolina, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, Shaw hopes to narrow his list down sometime in the summer. Shaw says Vanderbilt and South Carolina are showing him the most interest.
