2015 Focus: Middle Linebackers

BadgerNation breaks down which middle linebackers Wisconsin is looking at in the 2015 class, and where the Badgers stand with them.

With a lot of Wisconsin offers out for the 2015 class, we examine which positions the Badgers need to concentrate on in the next recruiting cycle.

We focus next on the middle linebacker. Barring attrition and transfers in the next year this is what the class would look like when the 2015 class would come in.

Seniors: None

Juniors: None

Sophomores: Garret Dooley, T.J. Edwards

Freshman: Unknown

It's hard to know exactly what linebackers are going to be where after defensive coordinator Dave Aranda restructured the defense, but the Badgers will need to add some depth to the middle of its defense in the coming years. So who is still out there for the Badgers in 2015?

Top Targets

Offers: Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, among others.

UW's Chances: It wouldn't seem like Wisconsin would be in play for one of the top defensive players in Virginia, but Simmons (pictured) has repeatedly said Wisconsin is a school he's intrigued by and wants to take a closer look at. Saying he wants to visit UW this summer, Simmons is planning to cut his list this month.

Offers: Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, among others.

UW's Chances: Offered by UW in early May, Copeland fits what Wisconsin is looking for in a middle linebacker. Hoping to visit Wisconsin soon, Copeland claims no favorites.

Offers: Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Virginia, among others.

UW's Chances: Fennell admitted that Wisconsin would be a good opportunity for him in terms of on-the-field success and having a strong academic reputation. He mentioned wanting to visit, but hasn't firmed up a date. He says he has no leaders and timetable for his collegiate decision.

Offers: Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, South Florida, Utah, UCF, among others.

UW's Chances: Having visited Duke, UCF and USF recently, Griffin has tentative plans to visit Boston College, Florida Atlantic and Wisconsin this summer. Griffin racked up 90 solo tackles, 150 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and two touchdowns in his junior season. He plans to make his decision during his senior season.

Offers: Wisconsin

UW's Chances: Badgers shocked Thomas with his first offer, as the linebacker said he felt a school like Wisconsin was out of reach for him. Also lining up as an outside linebacker or safety, Thomas says he will definitely see Wisconsin this summer, especially since the school does a "great job producing linebackers."

Long Shots

Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, amongst others.

UW's Chances: Wisconsin offered in late February but the interest level has never really been there. Smith says he is still wide open, but appears to be looking at Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and UCLA the hardest.
