One of those campers was Chaska (MN) junior wide receiver Sean Engel. Despite having a strong tie to arch-rival Minnesota with his older brother in former Gophers wide receiver Derrick Engel, he still wanted to put on a show for the Badgers coaching staff.
"I had a great day," Engel told BadgerNation. "I did really well today in the drills and one on ones. The wide receiver coach was very experienced and I took some information and tricks with me. There was a lot of wide receivers for the one on ones, so I had to fight for reps, but I made every rep count, didn't drop any passes, ran good routes and got open very easily. Overall, it was a fantastic camp, nice campus and great coaches."
A position that Wisconsin secondary coach Ben Strickland could see the big 6-5, 185-pound wide out possibly play at the next level is tight end, a position that the Badgers have locked up in 2015 with verbal commits from Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei's Kyle Penniston and Downers Grove (Ill.) North's David Edwards. Engel took reps at tight end with Strickland's suggestion.
"Coach Strickland told me I could have potential at the tight end position," Engel said. "We also talked about my invite from Team USA in L.A. and he wants me to send him film from that event. I also talked to Coach Beatty about the previous camps, what I thought about this camp. He recognized my name from Derrick and I got his information."
With the camp now in the books, what does the Engel think of the Badgers now?
"I am very interested in Wisconsin," said Engel, who says he'll camp at UW again next season. "They have a great program and very strong academics."
Engel will be at South Dakota State on June 30th, Minnesota junior elite camp in July and Team USA for a week in July.
