After winning the state championship last season, Monona Grove was looking to continue its winning ways, but hit a road block Friday night against Mount Horeb/ Barneveld. The Silver Eagles stumbled late in the fourth quarter and lost 29-27 despite the best efforts of junior running back Toren Young, who rushed for 63 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns.
“It was all right,” Young told BadgerNation of the game. “We had a lot of mistakes and not so many good plays, but at points we also displayed good things. I have a lot to work on if we didn’t win. I didn’t play good enough. We need to work on blocking up front and wrapping up on defense. Personally I need to block better. I did well at finishing runs and keeping my legs moving.”
While the 5-11, 200-pound didn’t get the result he would have hoped for in the season opener, he is patiently waiting for next week to come when he can start hearing from schools.
“Not much new with my recruitment,” said Young. “I am just waiting till September 1st when I can start to receive mail. I am still very much interested in Wisconsin. I definitely want to visit Wisconsin this fall, but as far as other schools I’m going to wait till September 1st to see who is interested and sends mail and take it from there.”
