Baun Hearing from Wisconsin

After being responsible for six touchdowns in the season opener, Brown Deer senior athlete Zack Baun is hoping to get an opportunity to play at Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has only offered two prospects in their home state this year, leaving many wondering if there are any other in-state recruits who could fit into the Badgers’ 2015 class.

Brown Deer senior athlete Zack Baun could be one of those players, especially after his performance in his team’s 51-14 season-opening win over Milwaukee Lutheran. Only play half the game, Baun threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another 172 yards and four scores.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Strickland and it wasn’t until about a few weeks ago until he contacted my coach and said they liked what they saw at the Wisconsin camp I went to,” Baun told BadgerNation. “Then after that it has really just been how they look forward to keeping in touch and good luck this season.”

The 6-3, 205-pound Baun received his only scholarship offer from South Dakota State over the summer, but has been hearing from Central Michigan and North Dakota State. While those schools have piqued his interest, Baun is holding out hope that an opportunity to play at Wisconsin comes since he’s grown up in the state and cherishes the Badgers.

“I’ve always said it was my ultimate goal to go to Wisconsin,” said Baun. “The tradition there is just incredible. The facilities I was able to see when I attended camp there were phenomenal. Being from Wisconsin plays a big role, as well. My mom doesn’t want me to go too far from away for college. Madison is perfect. I’ve just always been a Badger fan.”

If he was able to earn a Badgers offer down the road, what would that mean to him?

“It would mean the world to not only me, but my family. Only they know how hard I have really been working to achieve my goal of getting that offer. Getting a great education at Wisconsin, but also getting to play for the state of Wisconsin would be unbelievable.”
