Gary Andersen has always said that the Wisconsin brand is huge and well-known anywhere he goes. Recently, Andersen and his coaching staff have been putting that to the test by offering some of the best athletes in the nation, especially in California, where the Badgers have targeted Fresno (CA) Clovis West junior outside linebacker Caleb Kelly.
“Wisconsin talked to me on September 1st and told me to call them the next day on my lunch,” Kelly told BadgerNation. “I talked to the head coach, the defensive line coach and the linebacker coach and they told me that I had an offer and that they hoped I’d take an interest in them. I thought it was really cool that a school so far away would offer me and give me a chance to see how they are.”
The 6-2, 220-pound linebacker ranks as the No. 3 outside linebacker, the No. 10 overall player in the nation and a five-star recruit in the 2016 class. With offers from everywhere around the country, how interested is Kelly in the Badgers?
“Well now with an offer from them, I have a lot more interest than before,” said Kelly. “I don’t know much about them, so I’d like to learn more because I know they are a good team. I went out there going into my eighth grade year for a Packers game. It was so fun. I didn’t get to see the campus, but we were close to it. That would be cool to visit Wisconsin and see the campus sometime.”
Kelly updates his recruitment, something that he is really enjoying at this early point in the process.
“My recruitment has been going real well and fun,” said Kelly. “I like meeting the coaches, players and seeing all the stadiums and campuses. The new schools I have heard from are Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Michigan. I also don’t have a top list.”
