With four scholarships still available in the 2015 recruiting class and time winding down to college basketball’s national signing day in the beginning of November, Wisconsin basketball is actively looking to bring prospects to campus to check out the campus.
With the football team hosting Bowling Green this weekend, head coach Bo Ryan will be hosting an under-the-radar power forward in Clarksville (MD) River Hill senior Charlie Thomas. The sleeper prospect has been in communication with assistant coach Lamont Paris and is anxious for his upcoming official visit for this weekend.
“I have heard from Wisconsin and I have been talking to Coach Paris,” Thomas told BadgerNation. “He hasn’t been saying too much to me yet, but I am going up on a visit this weekend to Wisconsin. I do have strong interest in them. I am real excited and I am blessed for them to invite me up there on an official visit, so we will see how that goes. I am looking forward to meeting the coaches and the players. I can’t wait to be in that college atmosphere at Wisconsin and I am just looking forward to it.”
The 6-7, 205-pound Thomas currently doesn’t hold an offer from the Badgers, but is adamant that an offer from Wisconsin would mean a lot to him in his decision-making process.
“Just knowing they went to the Final Four is just amazing and if they did offer me, it would be a big deal,” said Thomas. “I am just looking forward to this visit. I do think I could fit in their offense because in my high school we have a slower type of offense and we kind of run the same stuff they do. I think I would fit in pretty good with that offense. I can’t wait.”
Thomas currently holds a power conference offers from DePaul and Rutgers and mid-major offers from George Mason, La Salle, Towson and William & Mary. Planning visited to Rutgers and DePaul in October and an undetermined trip to Vanderbilt, Thomas hopes to have a favorite school after his trips.
“I am loving the recruiting process and I am taking it step by step,” said Thomas. “I am not trying to rush things and I am taking it easy. I am looking at what is the best overall fit like good academics and athletes. I want a good coaching staff and great players I could be around.”
