While many prospects are setting up their official visits, Miami Gulliver Prep senior safety Antonyo Sotolongo has already pinned down an official visit to Madison for October 25 against Maryland, slated to be a huge recruiting weekend for the program.
“I am still going on my official there,” Sotolongo told BadgerNation. "I am pretty excited to be honest with you. I am looking forward to meeting the coaches and talking to some of the players that kind of things.”
Wisconsin continues to be active in the state of Florida under Gary Andersen, signing eight natives last season and three so far in 2015. One of those commits is Sotolongo’s teammate in three-star outside linebacker Dominic Sheppard, who also is scheduled to take his official that weekend.
“It feels good to be going with Dominic (Sheppard) because I have someone to experience it with,” said Sotolongo. “Sometimes he talks to me about Wisconsin, but not often.”
The 6-1, 200-pound three-star safety claims major offers from Arkansas, Duke, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Wake Forest and West Virginia. He knows what schools are sticking out to him, but is keeping his recruitment close to the vest.
“Well for the most part I would say I do, but I am not ready to release it because I need to know for sure,” said Sotolongo. “I will release it towards the end of my season. Wisconsin is in my top, I can say that.”
As the No. 79 safety in the country by Scout.com, Sotolongo has heard from plenty of coaches but has established a solid bond with wide receiver coach Chris Beatty.
“I have talked to Coach Beatty recently,” said Sotolongo. “He tells me that he loves the way I play and he would love to have me and Shep as a group to play there. Our relationship is good. He seems like a good person. I talk to him like every other day really. It feels welcoming knowing how much they want me. I hope to have a good time while there.”
