Taking advantage of a home football Saturday, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team hosted a few visitors Saturday, including Barrington (Ill.) junior power forward Rapolas Ivanauskas. A native of Lithuanian, Ivanauskas has started getting interest from Wisconsin and assistant coach Gary Close.
“Wisconsin was pretty good and in Madison I had an awesome time,” Ivanauskas told BadgerNation. “I got to talk and meet Coach Close and Coach Ryan. We talked for 25 minutes and talked about basketball, and I felt like I got a good vibe from them. They seem to be very, very intelligent men and know what they are doing.
”Coach Close gave me a tour of the Kohl Center and it was amazing and looked brand new. I got to see the facilities and then got to go to the football game, and the game was breathtaking. I really enjoyed my time there and appreciated it.”
The 6-9, 200-pound junior is well versed in basketball. His father, Tomas, played professional in their home country and Rapolas’ cousin, Deividas Dulkys, played at Florida State. Holding an offer from Iowa, Ivanauskas has become very interested in the Badgers following his unofficial visit.
“They are definitely on my list, and I was really excited to see them,” said Ivanauskas. “It is still kind of overwhelming with that great visit. It would be pretty big if they offered. They went to the Final Four last year and are a very good basketball team.
“I would rate it an 8 out of 10. I was there to see what they had to offer, and I got to learn a lot. The coaches were great, and I had a good time.”
