There were several official visitors on hand for Wisconsin’s rivalry game against No.22 Minnesota, but arguably the most talked about visitor coming in was on an unofficial visit in New London (NC) North Stanley junior running back Antonio Williams.
The highly touted tailback has shown great affection towards the Badgers for months on social media. With a decision looming, he made it a top priority to get to campus and it was a trip that definitely didn’t disappoint.
“The visit went great,” Williams told BadgerNation. “It was by far the best visit I’ve ever taken to any school. I got to spend a lot of time with Coach Brown and his family. I met up with Coach (Gary) Andersen and talked to him, got a full campus tour and loved it. I met with Melvin (Gordon) and Corey (Clement) and just had a good time.”
“I was very impressed with just how nice the people around Madison were. There were three different times people asked for a picture with me. Several other times people just encouraged me to come there and told me they’d love for me to join the Badgers. It is truly the best fan base in America.”
Williams (5-11, 195 pounds) was targeted early by running back coach Thomas Brown, who started developing a relationship with the four-star junior – ranked No.10 in the country by Scout.com – shortly after being hired by Wisconsin in February.
“We just talked about things besides football, how he is as a father and husband, and I could tell those just from his actions around his family,” said Williams. “It just showed me a different side of him that I’d never seen. He got to meet my dad, too, and my dad really liked him. It just showed me that side of him besides football that he talks about a lot. I also seen him coaching in person and that was a plus.”
"My favorite part was just being in Camp Randall and meeting up with Melvin and Corey," said Williams. "Me and Corey have been talking for a while back and forth over Twitter and finally getting to meet him was great. Meeting Melvin was also great. Their two great guys just like they are football players."
Williams is planning to announce his decision at his high school December 4 from a final list of Auburn, Duke, Notre Dame, North Carolina (where he was once committed) and Wisconsin. With a decision days away, how good of chance could we be seeing him commit to the Badgers after this amazing visit?
“There is a pretty good chance (laughter),” said Williams.
