The Gophers weren’t the only Minnesota players in Madison over the weekend, as Mayer (MN) Lutheran junior offensive tackle Sam Schlueter took an unofficial Saturday to watch Wisconsin win the outright Big Ten West Division championship.
“It was good,” Schlueter told BadgerNation. “We got to the game, got to walk around the streets and everything a little bit and see the atmosphere. Once we got to the recruiting room, we sat down and ate and the coaches came in. I got to talk to Coach Ben Strickland, who is the recruiter for my area, and Coach T.J. Woods. We then got to stand on the field for a while. We watched the game and then had a chance to go in the locker room after the game.
“They told me that they’re interested in me and looking forward to keep recruiting me and Coach Strickland said he’d stop by school sometime in December or January.”
The physical three-star 6-6, 275-pound tackle already holds offers from Minnesota and Northwestern while hearing from a host of others. After his trip to Madison, Wisconsin is definitely a school he plans on considering.
“I’m very interested in looking more into Wisconsin and looking more into the school and football team,” said Schlueter. “I like their style of play, the coaches and I’ve heard good things about their academics.
“My favorite part was being able to see the game day atmosphere and the whole area because I have never really seen it before and never been to a game before.”
Schlueter does not have a top list or have any upcoming visits scheduled.
