Even before Gary Andersen left for Oregon State, Ladue (MO) Horton Watkins senior defensive end Nate Howard wanted to visit some places. The strength of Howard’s Wisconsin commitment has been in question and many are wondering where his head is at with the Badgers after their new hire of Paul Chryst? Howard gives the latest on his status and his first conversation with Chryst.
“I literally just got off the phone with Coach Chryst and he seems like a great guy and coach,” Howard told BadgerNation. “I can’t wait till he comes down and introduce himself to my family and I. Aside from that my commitment is soft. I am certainly still interested in them and I plan to take two more visits and see from there.”
“He pretty much was reaching out and saying hello,” added Howard. “What stood out in our conversation was his understanding that things have been hectic for the recruits with Andersen leaving.”
The versatile and athletic 6-5, 225-pound defensive end is planning to travel to various schools and has seen some Big Ten teams interest rise for him.
“I am going to visit Syracuse for sure and either Missouri or Iowa,” said Howard. “Right now Missouri is set up, but I might set up Iowa instead…I know for a fact I have an offer from Iowa and pretty sure Minnesota, but not 100 percent sure.”
With all the uncertainty for Howard, he knows the Badgers will be a consistent presence in his recruitment.
“I have not ruled out Wisconsin whatsoever and will probably know if I’m going there or not before February,” said Howard. “I’m not sure when I will make the final decision.”
