Badgers Add Walk-On Punter

Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst continues to add talented in-state prospects, as Brookfield East punter Connor Allen accepted a preferred walk-on from the Badgers late Tuesday.

Through the slew of de-commitments, Wisconsin has added another late edition to its 2015 signing class from in-state, as Brookfield East senior punter Connor Allen accepted a preferred walk-on to Wisconsin Tuesday.

“It was very late in the game and I got a call from (former Wisconsin kicker) Taylor Mehlhaff saying he was coming back to coach here and that they were interested in getting me for a preferred walk-on, but there was another kid in line ahead of me that already had the offer from the old staff and Coach Chryst wanted to honor that offer,” Allen told BadgerNation. “We had to wait to see where he decided to commit and it ended up being a different school, so they offered me a preferred walk-on. I was very excited to receive the offer and committed right away.”

Wisconsin has a desire to add some depth to its special teams considering starting punter Drew Meyer is heading into his senior season.

The 6-0, 155-pound punter held offers from Sioux Falls and Northern Illinois, along with receiving interest from Minnesota, but is extremely excited to be suiting up for the Badgers next fall.

“I am beyond excited,” said Allen. “It’s been a dream of mine ever since I was a young kid to play football for the Badgers. A drive to be the best I can possibly be and improve every day. I will be a great teammate and friend as well.”
