The campus of Wisconsin was mostly calm before the storm of Signing Day coming up, but the Badgers coaching staff welcomed a few visitors on campus, including walk-on commit Elijah Strong, a safety from Oak Creek (WI) High.
The longtime Badgers fan jumped on an opportunity to play for Wisconsin, choosing the preferred walk-on offer over a full scholarship from Air Force. Sticking with his commitment throughout the process, he got that reassurance this past weekend that he made the right choice.
“It was great,” Strong told BadgerNation. “I got to tour the campus, find out a bunch of academic information. It was kind of a repeat of a lot of stuff because I’ve been here so many times, but hanging out with the players was awesome. They’re just normal guys like me.
“I talked to all of the coaches. Coach Aranda said that there will be a lot of walk-on guys that have chances to play as freshman. Other than that, he just was basically telling me they’re excited to have me.”
The 6-0, 170-pound senior has seen and heard all that Wisconsin pretty much has to offer, but what he did get this time unlike his other previous stops was time to kick back and find out what it is like to be a Badgers football player.
“My favorite thing was probably hanging out with the players because they showed me exactly what’s it is like to be a college football player,” said Strong. “They talked about the workouts, the practices, and all other aspects. It was just nice to get kind of a first person sense of a player at Wisconsin.
“I can’t wait to put on that jersey and start giving myself a name in this city.”
