Tibesar Finally Comes Through for Hopper

After running back coach Thomas Brown left Wisconsin before extending an offer, new linebackers coach Tim Tibesar felt that Roswell (GA) linebacker Tyrone Hopper was the type of player that could thrive under his guidance in the Badgers' 3-4 defense.

Former Wisconsin running back coach Thomas Brown aggressively recruited his home state of Georgia, including building a relationship with Roswell junior outside linebacker Tyrone Hopper. And even though Brown has since left the program, Wisconsin has carried over its recruitment of Hopper with outside linebacker coach Tim Tibesar, who increased Wisconsin’s recruiting interests when he offered a scholarship.

“For a while I was talking to Coach Brown before he left to Georgia, but then Coach Tibesar took over and we started talking,” Hopper told BadgerNation. “He called and he told me that he is just trying to get to know me and then said he wanted to offer me. He seems like a pretty cool guy and he knows what he is talking about. I was pretty excited about the offer because I was waiting for a Wisconsin offer for a while, but I was still pretty excited.”

The versatile 6-3, 195-pound linebacker doesn’t know a ton about the Badgers’ program, but does know he could be a good fit in their 3-4 defensive scheme.

“I know they have always had a pretty good offense and defense,” said Hopper. “Always been solid and they run a 3-4 defense, which Coach (Tibesar) really likes me at and I could fit. They got a great atmosphere there, so I know a little about them.”

Initially not a hot commodity, Hopper has seen his recruitment start to heat up. With Wisconsin putting him at 10 offers, Hopper also has scholarships from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Louisville, Tennessee and Wake Forest.

“This past summer is when it started to pick up,” said Hopper. “I put myself out there and got to camps and after football season that is when it really started to pick up. I am really enjoying the recruiting process and I like to get out on the road and get to see different schools. I’m looking for a nice school, good location, great atmosphere and make sure the coaches are really interested in me. I also got to make sure my parents really like it.”

Hopper is visiting Georgia Tech this weekend, will be heading to Tennessee on Tuesday and be going out to Florida on his spring break. He also hopes to make it to Madison.

“I am very interested in Wisconsin,” said Hopper. “We will probably be visiting there during the summer.”
