Wisconsin has been looking to make its recruiting presence felt in Maryland. Secondary coach Daronte Jones has worked hard in the state early and often throughout the first few months of the year and extended an offer to another talented prospect in Damascus (MD) junior safety Jake Funk.
“I was so excited about the offer because Wisconsin is a great school and it is my first power five conference offer,” Funk told BadgerNation. “I knew they had interest in me, but I didn’t know an offer would come that quick. I’m very interested in Wisconsin. I love the style of football they play and it’s a great school academically. It means a lot to me being the first power five school to offer me.”
The 5-11, 205-pound Funk sits as the No. 86 ranked safety in the nation and a three-star recruit by Scout with offers from Air Force, Army, Charlotte, Harvard, Navy, Old Dominion, Towson and Yale. Despite adding his first offer from a power five school, he is still not claiming any favorites and is working to set up visits.
“Right now I don’t a top list,” said Funk. “I’m just enjoying the process. I want to visit Wisconsin. I have to figure out a date that doesn’t conflict with anything. I’ve visited Old Dominion and Navy. Still trying to figure out other visits.”
