In an effort to give readers the greatest coverage of Wisconsin athletics, Badger Nation is beginning the Badger Sports Roundup, which will periodically cover Badger sports across campus.

Volleyball No. 4 in Big Ten Preseason Poll

August 1st--Wisconsin has been picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten in a preseason poll of conference coaches. Defending champion Minnesota is the favorite to win the conference title. Penn State and Michigan were selected No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Badger senior Morgan Shields was named to the preseason all-conference team, the lone Wisconsin player to receive that honor.

Wisconsin's volleyball season begins Aug. 29-30 when New Hampshire, Washington and Missouri-Kansas City grace the Field House for the Badger Invitational

Badger swimmer, coach representing U.S. in Pan American Games

July 31--Senior Wisconsin swimmer Carly Piper is competing for the U.S. in the 800-meter freestyle relay at the Pan American Games, which take place Aug. 1-17 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Piper is one of the most prolific swimmers in Badger history with nine Big Ten titles to her credit. She is also the defending Big Ten Swimmer of the Year.

Wisconsin head swimming coach Eric Hansen is also in the Dominican Republic as the head coach of the U.S. men's team. Hansen also a coach at the U.S. men's team training camp for the 1998 Pan American Games and was an assistant coach for the '94 World Championships squad. Hansen was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1987-92.
