Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep defensive end Tyler Friday is just the latest top prospect to come from the prestigious New Jersey high school. The 6-4, 250-pound Friday is already a top-100 prospect in the 2018 class and holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State and a dozen more.
Despite holding offers from the aforementioned national powers, Friday has not forgotten about Wisconsin. Yet to take a visit to campus, Friday hopes to learn more as he moves forward in his recruiting process with legitimate interest in the Badgers.
“As of right now, I don't know too much about Wisconsin,” Friday told BadgerNation. “But you know, as I get deeper into my recruitment, I’ve been hearing more and more positive things about the Badgers as a program.”
Friday has done his best to give each school a fair crack at him. Tight end coach Mickey Turner has been tasked with being a relationship with Friday and selling him on being a play maker in Wisconsin’s defense.
“I’m really working on building a relationship with the coaches at every school that recruits me,” Friday said. “Pretty much every school that has offered me honestly sticks out to me. I don’t have any leaders at the moment.”
Although no school has currently assumed a top spot in Friday’s recruitment, the four-star prospect still has a list of attributes that would make up his ideal school, none of which involve distance.
“Factors like distance don’t really matter to me; I’m just looking for a good fit,” Friday said. “I’m looking for a school that has a thought out plan for me, a good education, a comfortable environment, and one that has a great coaching staff.”
He also wants to find himself fitting into a school that prides itself in a strong-minded defense.
“I’m an extremely versatile player,” said Friday. “To all who don’t know yet, I am an athlete that plays fast. I am a physical athlete. I am strong.”
Saying it would be great to start adding more offers, Friday said Michigan and Ohio State have been recruiting him the hardest.
“They are both extremely competitive that love to win on the field,” he said
Having no upcoming visits scheduled with the high school season about to get underway, Friday would like to make his college decision prior to the start of his senior season. Between now and then, he would like to see Madison.
“Visiting Wisconsin would be nice,” Friday said. “That visit would probably take place after the season.”
