Growing in the heart of ACC and SEC country, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes 2018 linebacker Khalid Jones doesn’t have an affiliation for one team as much as he does a great defense. It’s one of the reasons the three-star junior tries to turn on Wisconsin’s game every Saturday.
“I love football so much where it doesn’t matter if you are ACC, SEC or whatever as long as you have a great defense,” Jones told BadgerNation. “If I see that and I can learn something from watching you play, I’m more than happy to watch your games. I like the way the defense is, and I’ve learned a lot of things from watching them play.”
Jones is one of the latest offers by the Badgers coaching staff, but the offer is far from catching him by surprise. The Wisconsin staff came by his school in the spring and started sending him mail shortly after. He reports 71 tackles through six games, which includes a sack and two fumble recoveries.
“They like because of the way I play on the field, and I have a good GPA,” Jones said. “They just feel I can help the team on and off the field.”
Jones holds early power-five offers from Duke, Maryland, Tennessee and Wake Forest. After seeing double-digit schools during this past summer, Jones hopes to take visits to Duke, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest in the coming weeks.
Now that Wisconsin is officially an options, Jones is trying to schedule an unofficial visit to Madison for Wisconsin’s home finale on November 26.
“(Wisconsin has) definitely been on my radar because they have a great defense and really good linebacker play,” Jones said. “I hope to see them play Minnesota.”
