A projected look at the 2017 NCAA tournament bracket

Scout bracketology expert Kyle Reichert updates his projected bracket for the 2017 NCAA tournament

Tuesday delivered three major upsets with West Virginia beating Kansas, Marquette knocking off top overall seed Villanova and Tennessee taking down SEC leader Kentucky. Marquette’s win vaulted the Golden Eagles into the projected field, as its resume now boasts the ultimate signature win. West Virginia currently sits in third place in the Big 12, but sits as a four seed with wins over the two teams above them (Kansas and Baylor).

An unfortunate story line has emerged with Creighton senior guard Maurice Watson out for the season with a torn ACL, and the Bluejays have struggled to adjust. Having lost at home to Marquette and losing by 20 at mediocre Georgetown, Watson’s injury has some implications for Creighton’s seeding, as the committee will put more weight on Creighton’s resume without Watson on the court. Creighton was a legitimate top-10 team before Watson’s injury, so a game against Creighton prior to January 16th will carry far more weight than it will for any team playing them after.

Even with Duke’s recent struggles, the ACC currently having six teams among the top 24 on the seed list. And while they aren’t as strong at the top as in past years, the Big Ten has seven teams in the field.
