American Heritage (Fla.) defensive end Andrew Chatfield enjoys Wisconsin visit

Wisconsin's aggressive recruiting gave Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage defensive end Andrew Chatfield, who finally got a chance to visit Madison this week.

South Florida is famous for producing elite football prospects. It’s no different in 2018, with this year’s crop including a top Wisconsin target in Fort Lauderdale American Heritage’s Andrew Chatfield.

Offered by Wisconsin nearly a year ago, Chatfield got to make his first visit to Wisconsin earlier this week.

“The visit was great,” Chatfield told BadgerNation. “It was just really great. I got to talk to the coaches and see so many different things while I was there.”

A priority target for the Badgers in the 2018 cycle, Chatfield enjoyed seeing the way the football program functions, getting a true feel for what Wisconsin football is like.

“This trip showed me just how humble the players are,” Chatfield said. “I saw how caring the coaches are, how they’re always pushing the players to be better.”

Spending time with defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield and outside linebacker Tim Tibesar, Wisconsin is putting for Chatfield as an outside linebacker. Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst said the Badgers will be saving a spot for him, causing Chatfield to hold him in high regard.

“Coach Chryst is a great guy,” Chatfield said. “I loved watching how he showed them (the players) the plays and just how he runs things. He’s a real good coach.”

Wisconsin has been at or near the top for Chatfield for quite some time and have managed to forge a strong bond with him, keeping Chatfield’s best interests in mind.

“Wisconsin always shows me love,” Chatfield said. “The coaches are always looking out for my best interests. They tell me that even if I don’t pick UW, they want me to be comfortable and in a good situation. I really like that.”

Wisconsin was one of many Midwest visits for Chatfield, stopping at Notre Dame and Ohio State in the following days. He also picked up an offer from Iowa. Unknown when he’ll make a decision, Chatfield has a lot of schools pushing for his signature.

“All the schools recruiting me are bringing their A-game now,” Chatfield said. “Wisconsin though, they tell me it’s not guaranteed there. They say if I work hard, I’ll have a shot to play and go hard. They want me to bring that South Florida swagger, come out with real swag.”
