Being named first-team all-state selections in Minnesota last month, Lakeville North power forward Nathan Reuvers and Maple Grove combo guard Brad Davison finished in Scout.com final top 100 rankings, which were released Wednesday.
It’s the first time since 2007 that the Badgers put two players in the top 100 of the final rankings (Jon Leuer and Keaton Nankivil).
Reuvers averaged 25.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game during his senior season, leading the Panthers to a 24-2 record and a berth in the 4A state tournament quarterfinals. In his final high school game, Reuvers – who was also selected to his conference’s all-defensive team – finished with 41 points and 12 rebounds.
Davison finished his high school career with a school-record 2,300 points, 899 assists, 365 steals, 692 field goals, 168 3-pointers and 748 made free throws. He was also named the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s 2016 Metro football player of the year, leading his team to an 8-3 record by throwing 2,418 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushing for 891 yards and 15 scores.
The third member of Wisconsin’s 2017 class also has impressive credentials.
Leading his team to a 26-2 record, guard Kobe King was named the state’s Mr. Basketball winner after averaging 27 points per game. In the state title game, King scored 21 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to help La Crosse Central win its first state title in 92 years. Once a top-100 prospect, King's wrist injury that he suffered during the 2016 state tournament limited him during last year's AAU season, playing a part in causing his ranking to drop.
All three players will be in position to contribute next season for Wisconsin, which has to replace four starters and reserve guard Jordan Hill.
“I don’t want to put expectations or limitations out there for them,” Gard told BadgerNation earlier this month at the Final Four. “They get here in June, we’ll have practices then, we’ll have practices leading into the foreign tour and five games overseas. What they have in front of them are opportunities, opportunities every day to get better, show the staff what they are ready for and maybe show the staff they aren’t quite ready for that moment.”
