Wisconsin hoping to get four-star receiver Nikko Remigio on campus

Still looking to add a receiver in the 2018 recruiting class, Wisconsin has made a strong early impression on Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei four-star prospect Nikko Remigio.

Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei receiver Nikko Remigio admits that he is still pretty neutral right now when it comes to his recruitment, still assembling a list of summer visits and a top list.

When that time comes, the four-star receiver is likely to include Wisconsin on his list.

“What interests me most about Wisconsin is their competitiveness and drive to be the best in everything they do,” Remigio told BadgerNation. “They aren't afraid to air the ball out and spread it around the field, which is essentially every receiver’s dream.”

Recruiting elite players out of California has been a struggle for Wisconsin coaches, dating back to when current Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez ran the program. The Badgers haven’t earned a commitment from a four-star prospect out of California since 2013. Even that didn’t last, as safety Tyler Foreman de-committed after Bret Bielema’s departure.

On the flip side the Badgers have had success at Mater Dei High School. Head coach Gary Andersen signed tight end Kyle Penniston and defensive tackle Olive Sagapolu in the 2015 recruiting class and both have had productive careers.

Under Paul Chryst, Wisconsin has sent receiver coach Ted Gilmore to the West to build relationships.

“The coach I have been in the most contact with is Coach Ted Gilmore,” Remigio said. “He has pretty much just been saying that I would be a perfect fit in their program, not only regarding my talents but my character as well.”

Ideally targeting two receivers in the class, Wisconsin hopes Remigio could be a significant piece to a reloaded receiver room.

“I would describe myself as a quick and shifty receiver,” he said. “An aggressive blocker. Solid hands. I believe my biggest strength is my route running. I try to perfect that as much as possible.”
