RB Damien Rhodes 6-1 190 4.3 Manilus, New York (Fayetteville-Manilus)
Just how good is Damien Rhodes. A couple of weeks ago, I spoke with Rhodes after he put up 213 yards and scored four touchdowns. The beat goes on. In Damien's latest contest, he rushed 19 times for 244 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also returned the opening kick for a touchdown. Oh, by the way, Rhodes didn't play in the fourth quarter.
This young man is good, real good. He accounted for 35 points in three quarters. On film, he's one of the best I've seen in 10 years.
Lorenzo Booker and DeShawn Wynn might get more pub but Rhodes could be the best of them all. He just makes it look so easy. After last weeks contest, Fayetteville-Manilus head coach, Paul Muench said Rhodes is the best running back he's ever laid eyes on.
For any school to have a shot at Rhodes, they must not say the "D" word. "If you mention defense you move directly to the back of Damien's list." Said Dwight Rhodes, the father of Damien Rhodes. "Damien wants to play running back. We were looking hard at Michigan until they mentioned defense.
Michigan has offered Damien a scholarship and they call every week but he (Damien) doesn't want anything to do with playing defense. We are still considering Michigan but not as much as we did four months ago.
We're also looking for a school where Damien will play as a true freshman. We don't want to spend five years on a campus. Damien will have his degree in four years and if God continues to bless him as he has in the past, he'll be playing football on Sunday." Rhodes said.
Playing on Sunday? Nothing is a certainty but it's a pretty good bet that Damien Rhodes will reach his goal of playing in the NFL. Some people were born to be doctors and lawyers. Watch Damien Rhodes on film and you can see that this young man was born to run the football and he does that very well.
So who has the best shot at landing this blue chip prospect?
"Right now, I'd say the top three are Syracuse, Michigan State and Boston College." Dwight Rhodes said. "We're also considering Wisconsin and Michigan."
Damien Rhodes will officially visit Boston College, October 26th. The Eagles will be hosting the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. On November 2nd, Rhodes will officially visit Michigan State. The Spartans host the Michigan Wolverines.
Damien is in the process of firming up his official visit to Wisconsin. Rhodes may visit the Badgers with teammate and Wisconsin verbal commit, Elliot Goode.
Rhodes has the talent to play in any conference in the nation. It's still early but I'd say that Syracuse is the team to beat right now. The Orangeman are close (Manilus, New York) to home and they have a solid football program.
Having said that, the NCAA allows five official visits and coaches can make home visits in December. Rhodes will most likely take all five visits before making his decision. The race for Damien Rhodes will be hard fought and it may not end until signing day.
