Men's golf team finishes last in Nestle Purina Classic

Of the nine teams competing in the Nestle Purina Classic in St. Charles, Mo., the Badgers sat at the bottom, shooting a 54-hole cumulative total of 886. The third round score of 288, however, was the team's lowest tally since Oct. 8, 2001.

Freshman Garrett Jones led the Badgers with a 216 over 54 holes to tie for 21st place. Junior Kevin Tassistro shot a 220 in a tie for 30th while junior Brian Brodell tied for 40th with a 225.

Kansas State University shot a 18-hole course record 268 and a 54-hole record 830 to win the tournament.

Women's tennis falls out of Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Senior Shana McElroy could not get past Vanderbilt's Kelly Schmandt in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Tuesday, losing to Schmandt in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

McElroy is rated No. 79 in the ITA preseason rankings while Schmandt is No. 58. Schmandt will continue to the round of 32.

In doubles action, McElroy and junior Katie McGaffigan defeated Rice University's Lauren Archer and Blair DiSesa 8-4, advancing to the round of 16 pairs.  The duo, however, lost to Boise State's Jemima Hayward and Erin Polowski 8-6.
