The men's soccer team gave DePaul more than it could handle, as the Badgers (1-3-0 Big Ten, 9-8-0 overall) defeated the Blue Demons (3-2-0 Conference USA, 7-8-0 overall) 2-1 Wednesday at home.
Junior forward Jed Hohlbein notched both of Wisconsin's goals, the first one coming midway into the first half. DePaul fouled, allotting Wisconsin a free kick. Hohlbein received a pass from freshman midfielder Aaron Witchger that got past senior goalie Jeff Klitzke for the score.
DePaul responded one minute later on a goal from sophomore forward Edwin Arreola off an assist from freshman midfielder Kevin Riemer.
The remainder of the first half remained scoreless but Hohlbein scored the game-winning goal after taking a pass from freshman defender Hamid Afsari early in the second half. Hohlbein has a team-leading nine goals and 22 points this season.
Junior goaltender Eric Hanson earned two saves while Klitzke had four.
