The University of Wisconsin volleyball team moved up three spots to 20th in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Oct. 27.
Defending NCAA champion USC (20-0) remains atop the coaches poll for the 10th straight week and continues to receive all 65 first-place votes. The rest of the top five remains the same as last week with Hawaii (22-1) and Florida (22-1) second and third, respectively. Georgia Tech (22-0) and Pepperdine (17-2) are fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Big Ten Conference has four teams in the top 25. Following its loss to Wisconsin last Friday, Penn State (18-4) falls two spots to 17th while Wisconsin (16-5) moves up three spots to 20th. Minnesota (15-7) takes a two-spot jump to 23rd while Illinois (17-3) moves on to the poll for the first time this season at No. 25. Michigan State (13-7), which had been ranked 22nd last week, falls out of the poll to receiving points.
Wisconsin opens the second half of the Big Ten season in a three-way tie for first place. The Badgers face conference co-leader Minnesota on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports North (cable channel 26 in Madison). On Saturday, the Badgers travel to last-place Iowa (5-15, 0-10) for a 7 p.m. match in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
Minnesota hosts Iowa on Wednesday before both teams face Wisconsin this weekend.
