Eight different Badgers tallied points as Wisconsin took advantage of three third period goals to take a 4-1 win out of Bemidji State Friday. Wisconsin (2-3-0 WCHA, 6-3-0 overall) outshot Bemidji State 34-13; freshman goalie Christine Dufour notched 12 saves for the Badgers for her third career win.
The Beavers (1-7-1, 0-5-0 WCHA), though, tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal with two seconds left on the clock in the second period.
Despite that apparent momentum-builder for the home team, the Badgers poured it on in the third period, getting a pair of goals in less than a minute-and-a-half from Karen Richard and Amy Vermeulen. Nikki Burish added an unassisted goal in the game's final minute to close out the scoring.
Bemidji State held Wisconsin scoreless throughout much of the first period, but the Badgers outshot the Beavers 8-4. UW frosh Bobbi-Jo Slusar finally broke the stalemate at 16:38 with assists from assistant captain Steph Millar and Burish for the 1-0 lead. The goal marks Slusar's first career goal as a Badger; Burish was the only Wisconsin player to earn multiple points Friday.
Wisconsin finishes its series against Bemidji State at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
