Future Badger Ready For Madtown

Illinois gunslinger Sean Lewis has finished his senior year of high school football. Lewis talks about his Wisconsin official visit date and he draws high praise from an opposing head coach.

Sean Lewis, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound gunslinger from Oak Lawn (Ill.) Richards is verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers.

Lewis had a super junior season, throwing for 2,178 yards and 28 touchdowns but he saw his productivity slip considerably in 2003.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed," said Lewis. "We were a young team and we just couldn't get it going this year.

"They'll (Richards) be good in a few years but now I'm ready for the next step of my career."

That next step will be in Madison where Lewis and fellow quarterback commitment Bryan Savage will be learning on a daily basis what it takes to compete at the Big Ten level.

Both Lewis and Savage are outstanding quarterbacks who could play early for the Badgers.

"I'm ready for the competition," said Lewis. "I'm ready for the next step. The college game is more complex than high school and I have so much to learn. I'm ready to go."

Learning won't be hard for Lewis, he carries a 4.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale and his intelligence on the football field is one of his strong points.

Lewis and his Richards teammates had their season ended last week by Minooka but Sean drew high praise from an opposing head coach.

"Sean Lewis is the real deal," said Minooka (Illinois) head coach Mike Briscoe.

"He threw a rocket in the air for a 60-yard touchdown against us. I know his numbers are down this year but to be honest, he (Lewis) lost a lot on the offensive line and his receivers aren't nearly as good as they were last year. Sean will be a good college quarterback, there's no doubt in my mind."

Sean Lewis will be in Madison the weekend of December 5th for his official visit. He threw for 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2003.
