Women's runners earn at-large bid to NCAA meet

The Wisconsin women's cross country team was selected to participate in the 2003 NCAA Championship as an at-large team, the NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field Committee announced Monday evening.

The Badgers placed sixth in the 30-team Great Lakes Regional Nov. 15. The top two teams in each of nine Regionals earned automatic bids to the NCAA meet, which begins at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24 in Waterloo, Iowa. Thirteen additional teams received at-large bids Monday night, four from the Great Lakes Regional. Also representing the Big Ten at the national championships will be Michigan, Indiana, Michigan State and Penn State.

This is the 18th time in the last 21 years the UW women will run at the NCAA championship.

The Wisconsin men's team won its portion of the Great Lakes Regional and will also compete at the NCAA meet Nov. 24, beginning at 11 a.m.
