Burish honored, women's hockey moves up in poll

Badger forward Nikki Burish was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday

Badger forward Nikki Burish was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday.

Burish tallied two goal in Wisconsin 4-0 win over St. Cloud State Friday night and two assists in an 8-1 victory Saturday.

Burish now has six goals, five assists this season and is tied for the team points lead (11) with fellow forwards Steph Millar (four goals, seven assists) and Karen Rickard (six, five).

The home series sweep (at the Eagles Nest in Verona, Wis.) of the Huskies moved Wisconsin's women's hokey team to 11-3-0 overall and 7-3-0 in WCHA play, good for second place, just one point behind Minnesota. The Badgers moved up one spot to No. 6 in the latest USCHO.com Women's Hockey Division I Poll, released Monday.

Wisconsin is off this weekend, but return to WCHA-league play next weekend, Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 with a road series at fourth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth.
