The Badgers (2-3) took an early 11-6 lead off eight quick points from senior center Emily Ashbaugh, but Notre Dame (3-3) tightened its defense and received strong contributions from guard Megan Duffy and forward Courtney LaVere.
Duffy scored 19 of her game-high 25 points in the first half to fuel the Irish, who outscored Wisconsin 30-18 in the final 15 minutes of the first half to take a 36-29 halftime lead. Duffy did most of her damage from behind the arc, hitting six three-point shots, but also led Notre Dame with seven assists and three steals and only turned the ball over once.
LaVere was strong inside with 22 points and nine rebounds, including five offensive.
For Wisconsin, Ashbaugh finished with 16 points, hitting 8 of 10 shots, but fouled out for the second consecutive game. Sophomore guard Ashley Josephson contributed 15 points and hit 3 of 5 three-pointers, while junior point guard Stephanie Rich notched a career-high 12 assists. Rich, though, continued to struggle with her shot, hitting just 2 of 11 from the field.
"I really felt that our team was mentally and physically prepared for this game," Wisconsin coach Lisa Stone said. "The longer we spend time together as a team, the more we understand our strengths and weaknesses. I think in this game we played against a program with a great tradition, great coaching, and great players, and our team didn't fear our opponent. I thought that was demonstrated in the first half when we were battling."
Wisconsin returns home Sunday, Dec. 7 to take on Iowa State at 1:30 p.m. CST.
