Joliet Catholic JR LB Chris Jeske

The State of Illinois is considered to have some of the top talent in the country for the class of 2005. One player that shines is Joliet Catholic LB Chris Jeske, who led the Hilltoppers to the State 5A Championship this year.

Joliet Catholic Academy should be a familiar name to Wolverine fans. Current Michigan offensive lineman Chris Jeske (6-2, 215, 4.5 in the 40, 4.3 GPA). The junior defensive star helped JCA win yet another Illinois State 5A title this year, their 11th overall, while leading the team with 163 tackles, 113 solo. His coach, Dan Sharp, describes his junior captain as someone, "who loves the violence of the game. I've never known anyone who hits as hard as Chris. When Chris makes a tackle the other guy falls back, nobody ever falls forward after they've been hit by him."

Sharp said he nicknamed his linebacking corps of Jeske and Jake Trader the Hanson Brothers, after the pair of hard-hitting hockey players in the movie "Slapshot".

Jeske excels off the field as well, carrying a 4.3 GPA. He is already getting looks from the Big Ten schools. "I got offers from Wisconsin and Northwestern in the early part of my season," Jeske said. "It's really early for me to start thinking about college so I really don't have a favorite."

Is Michigan on the radar? "Coach Andy Moeller was at my school a couple weeks ago and he just said hi," Jeske said. "There really wasn't much else he could do with the rules and stuff. I certainly like Michigan but again its too early for me to start seriously thinking about it much." He said there was no scholarship offer from Michigan at this time.

Jeske said he was invited by the Michigan staff to attend this years Michigan-Ohio State game but he couldn't make it as his team was still in the playoffs. He said he will most likely attend summer camps at Michigan and Ohio State.

In the off-season Jeske said he competes in the free-style wrestling club and lifts weights. You can be sure to hear a lot about this talented young man in the next year and GBW will keep you informed the entire way, stay tuned.
